How to recognize phishing emails

Common signs of phishing and what to do if you receive a suspicious message.

Phishing is the most common way attackers gain access. Knowing the signs protects you and your business.

Common signs

Urgency or threats, unexpected attachments, requests for credentials or payment, and sender addresses that look almost right but aren't.

What to do

Do not click links or open attachments. Report the message using your report-phishing button, or forward it to your BTS security contact if instructed.

If you already clicked

Submit a support request immediately with the category 'Cybersecurity concern'. Disconnect the affected device from the network if you can do so safely.
